LandExplorer's Impact: On Stage at Land Talks

This week, LandExplorer got a few minutes on stage at Land Talks #7, an evening of short talks on "Reimagining Land for a More Abundant Britain," hosted by Francis Irving and Henry Morris at The Sekforde in London. Our Co-Director Kate Swade spoke for us.

Our talk was about how land and buildings should serve the communities around them, but ownership information is often opaque, buried behind fees and scattered datasets most people don't know exist. We walked through what's actually possible once that information is made available in one free tool. 

Our examples covered identifying who's behind a housing association operating in your area, finding land held by large landowners and landlords, testing a hunch about who really owns a building, and building community-centric land projects. We highlighted the range of people already using LandExplorer to do this, from housing justice campaigners and tenants' unions, river protection and ecosystem restoration groups, and volunteers building community-funded solar projects. 

We also talked about how we continue to build the tool: by running a series of workshops to better understand the needs of community groups who rely on LandExplorer in their daily work. Some of those groups are able to join our Solidarity Tier for £600 a year, which helps to fund free access to the tool for those groups who cannot afford to pay.
